I've experienced a few. Been lucky damage wise on the property but been without power for days at a time. It's been awhile since northern Michigan has had one, at least one that met the criteria.

The major one I was in was on May 8, 2009.

It uprooted thousands of trees in southern Illinois.

I was out of power for weeks.

I've never seen anything like it.

I couldn't imagine being without power that long. The most I've gone is 4 days. I have a well, so no power also equals no water.
We have generators out where I live now. We're pretty out in the country and ice storms get us a lot.
